Tracking Severe Storms and Following the Storm Chasers

Lightning Storm Over Dallas

I have always been interested in weather, watching the radars, making minor predictions for my family members etc. I also enjoy watching storm chasers do their thing and I figured that you may enjoy that as well. I do think the stormchasers are definitely pretty crazy… or maybe just crazy smart. Yesterday there was a pretty big tornado outbreak, most of it happening in Oklahoma, I was watching the coverage on an Oklahoma City’s television (don’t you just love the internet) and I watched a guy storm chasing from a helicopter… yes you heard me right, from a helicopter. He was probably a half mile away from the storm (and less).  May is the prime time for storm chasing and here are some sites you can use to follow the action. One note these sites are mostly for following several of the chasers at once, so if you click on an individuals feed it will take you to more information about them and their website.

Imap allows you to track some of the chasers in real time - http://www.wdtinc.com/pages/imaptracker

WGN also has the tracking available on their map- http://www.chicagoweathercenter.com/severe/stormchase/

Chaser TV is also a good place that has live feeds from many of the major chasers when they are available - http://www.chasertv.com/

Stay safe and enjoy your Tuesday.
