Saving Money on Software - Using Open Office

Hope you had an enjoyable week.  Today we talk about a software program that can save you a lot of money.

Saving Money at College Saving Money on Computer Programs and Computer Software

We spoke last week about saving money by using free programs - over the next couple of blog posts we’ll start talking about a couple of the different office suites that you can get… for free. Yep that’s right absolutely no cost to you and believe it or not they work well too. The one that we want to talk about today is open office. Open office is totally free. You can download the program from -
http://download.openoffice.org/

The current non beta version is Open office 3.2.1

The great thing is it is free for any purpose - students, business commercial or non commercial uses. The great thing is you can open files from other office suites and you can also save files as those programs. The program has 5 functions within it. A word processor, a spreadsheet / accounts program, a drawing program, a presentation program (think
power point)  and a database program (like access). I was a bit skeptical at first as well, after all how could something free work as well as something I paid hundreds of dollars for.
Please don’t take my word for it but try it yourself (after all it is free). Test it to see if it works well enough for whatever you’re doing, and if it doesnt’ then the only thing you’ve ‘wasted’ is a hour or so of your time.

Enjoy your weekend.
