Saving Money on Food - A Road Trip

by admin on August 1, 2008

I know this was supposed to be the fun with no money post - but I figured this would be pertinent for the school shoppers out there.

First I want to apologize for the late post… we just got back from a school shopping trip. We live in a very small town so the choices for shopping are mainly limited to a Super Walmart.  Each year we usually go to a larger town so our girls have a larger choice than usual. This trip I actually worked on trying to save as much money as possible (after all everyone needs to practice what they preach).

Usually for our trips we eat at a fancy place - and I usually eat steak. This time we went to McDonalds.. and you won’t believe the savings. At Micky D’s we ate what we wanted including dessert (I was on a diet). Cost there about $25.00. I went to a place we would have normally eaten (my kids thought I was crazy) and asked them what they would have chosen. The cost there… about $80 not even including the tip. So one small changed saved me $55.00. I’ll talk some about choosing the hotel room next Friday. I hope you all have a wonderful evening.

I am hoping that perhaps now that people have less money and more time, that they will return to more home cooking—it is one of the best ways to cut down on your household budget. Processsed foods are expensive and the more you can cook from scratch, the less it costs. If you think you don’t know how to cook, I have a Cooking 101 guide here:
