Saving Money on Concert Tickets

We talked some earlier about our visit to Memphis. The reason we were going to Memphis was to go to a Justin Bieber concert. Concert tickets are expensive and they are finding a ton of ways to make them more expensive. In order to get early access to tickets you need to be a member of the club (usually costs about 25 bucks). If you want a VIP package, which includes good seats and some other extras, those tickets can cost you 300 - $500. Yes that is half a grand for a few hours of fun.

If you can hold out for a few weeks (and the tickets don’t sell out), then you can usually get a ticket for $30 - $50. Usually you will go thru a ticket agent (like ticketmaster online) they’ll charge you a service fee and even if you print the ticket yourself they’ll charge you to print it. That’s really a fee that boggles my mind. They charge me to print my own ticket, sounds like they are in cahoots with the airline folks.

There are a few different ways I’ve found to have some additional fun at the concert and those are usually free. The best place to find out where the action is will be to check out the radio stations within the area. At the Bieber concert they had some free music a few hours before the concert and they had a free autograph signing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Memphis. Both of those things were free and actually pretty fun.

T-shirts at the concert will usually cost you about $35. Other items will cost you anywhere from $10 + (bracelets, the lights that light up, programs, hats etc). One thing you can usually do is check out the site of the group you’ll be attending. That will give you an idea of the price that you will pay.

We’ll talk some more about our Memphis trip next week.
