In the gas mileage guide we speak some about calling around to find out / figure out which gas station has the best gas. You can do this with other products as well.
I was speaking to my Father-in-law this weekend and he talked about doing just that. His furnace was on the blink and he figured out what part he needed to fix it. He called one store, told them what he needed. They told him that they couldn’t give him just that part, but would need to give him the whole assembly (which included that part) and would need to order it and it would be there in a couple of weeks…. total cost $440.00. He told them that he didn’t need the whole furnace and hung up.
He then called another store and asked them if they had the part. They did have the part (just the part), in stock. .. total cost $39.95. I don’t guarantee that you would save $400.00 by calling around but I will say that you will be surprised at what you’ll save (especially on big items like appliances).
One thing I also like to do is first find some alternatives like Amazon.com. Check around, read the reviews. Once I find a product I like I’ll make a note of the price (with shipping) from Amazon. Then start using the telephone to call around.
We hope this helps you save a little cash and have a wonderful day!!
