We spent this past weekend in Memphis TN. We did it as a last fling before school starts… I can’t believe how the Summer flew by. We saved some money on the reservation by booking early and the best price we could get was thru hotels.com. One thing I can say about the weekend was it was hot, and I’m not talking just a little hot I’m talking heat index of 110 -115. We arrived at about 3pm or so after 8 hours on the road. The hotel is in the downtown area of Memphis and most of the parking is done in parking structures so we had the 4 runner valet parked. Really that wasn’t an option since you had to have it valet parked. Cost for that was $20 a night so that wasn’t too bad if you say it fast. The valet guys were nice and friendly (throughout the whole stay) and they were all smiling even with the heat.
Check in at the hotel went smoothly and we got some fresh chocolate chip cookies… and they were warm and tasty. The hotel has ten floors and we were on the 3rd floor. Nothing special about the room, it had the standard fare of beds, tv etc. The beds were a little small. It was hot in the lobby and the hotel (probably mid 80’s or so) but the room itself was cooler. There was a pool and the third floor that we checked out. The pool was small and it was outdoor and felt like a furnace so after a brief glance we went back into the hotel.
The best thing about the hotel was it was close to everything. We were in Memphis to see a concert and the walk to the Fedex forum took about ten minutes. Beale street about 10 minutes. It was right across the street from the baseball stadium. So if you’re going to see a concert or watch the Grizzlies play a basketball game then this would be a good pick.
We’ll talk some more about our adventures on Friday.
