Our Review of Netflix

New To Netflix

We decided to test out Netflix a few weeks ago. The main reason was I wanted to be able to access movies with my Ipad.

The premise is pretty simple. You go to Netflix and sign up. There are three different plans that you can choose. After you get on a plan then you choose the movies that you want in your queue. You can also rank your movies within the queue… the one you want sent first, second, third etc. They want you to start out by choosing 8 movies at first.  Based on your selections, they’ll then work on sending you movies to you (based on your plan). We chose the $9 plan which allows you to have two movies out a once, but it also allows you to download movies as well (as much as you want). When you get the movies, you watch them at your leisure and then you mail them back. Then Netflix will send you the next movies in your queue.

So far things for us have went very smooth. We usually watch a couple of movies over the weekend. We mail them on Monday, they get them on Tuesday and mail us out another and usually we get it on Weds. We live in a very rural area so I’m definitely pleased with the turn around speed. I’m sure if you live in a bigger city then you will get at least the same level of service.

The movie selection is huge and their system will try to recommend movies to you as you search for new ones to rent. Only once have I not gotten the #1 movie in my queue… of course this may be because I’m a new customer and they are trying to impress me. The quality of the DVD’s have been fine and have played without any problems. The mailers are also easy to use. Overall I can say that I have been pleased with the service.

A couple of things to remember before you take the plunge.

1. If you’re going to watch a couple of movies a week then it would be worth your time. That would make your monthly movie watching about 8 or so movies. Figure that out to 3 bucks a movie and you’ve saved 15 or so dollars. If you’re only going to watch a couple of movies a month then you would actually lose money.

2. Scheduling movie time and when you’re going to mailing things back is crucial, so before you take the plunge you may want to plan a movie night.
