It’s been a hot one this week, like in much of the country. They say that June was one of the hottest months on record… I can believe that too. Here’s a tip for cooling down I learned in the army. Take a bandanna or handkerchief and deep it in cool water, then wrap it around your neck. As the water evaporates you’ll get a cool breeze. I won’t say that it makes a 100 degree day feel like 70 degrees, but you will definitely be able to feel the difference.

Traveling to Minnesota
Nothing very much exciting happened along the way to Minnesota… just ten hours or so of driving.
We left about 4 am or so and still got into Chicago traffic (we came back a different way). It also seemed that every other mile we were getting stopped by a toll booth. Indiana and Illinois got about 15 bucks or so of our hard earned cash. Looks like with me paying so much that the roads would have been much nicer (no pot holes, smooth as silk), well they weren’t. Obviously they are using their toll money for something besides road mantenance.
Traffic jams in Chicago were crazy. They had some storms that went thru the week before and the Sears tower (or whatever it’s called now) had some blown windows… I don’t know about you but I would not have wanted to be standing beneath those when the blew out.
We did find a tourist area that looked like fun if you’re up in that neck of the woods and need a place to stop for the night. It kind of reminded me of an area near our neck of the woods (the smokey mountains). It had a whole lot of water parks (many indoor), a lake, shows, miniature golf etc. If you think you may want to plan a trip there here is a site with a ton of information as well as coupons. http://www.dells.com/
We did stop there for gas, but that’s about it. After 10 hours or so of driving we did make it to our hotel… next time… shop till we drop.
