We Continue our series on Will Gardening Save you Money or Not
Last time we talk about should you grow a garden. Today we’ll talk about thinking about what plants to grow, next time we’ll get into the actual work of growing your garden.
There are two seasons of vegetables.
Cool season vegetables (carrots, beets, lettuce, cauliflower, etc.) are planted in early spring and harvested by mid-summer. Warm season vegetables (tomatoes, pepper, eggplant, squash, etc.) are planted after the risk offrost has passed and harvested by early fall.
With cool season vegetables it is possible to grow two or three crops - planting and harvesting of those vegetables.
Below are several other important factors to consider when growing a vegetable garden to save you money.
When you’re thinking about the vegetables you plant you want to select vegetables that can be stored or preserved. Potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, and winter squash can be stored for several months when stored at the appropriate temperature. Other vegetables, like beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets and sweet corn, can be preserved by canning or freezing.
You can find an excellent resource for preserving your crops at the following url http://www.pickyourown.org/allaboutcanning.htm
You also want to select vegetables that you eat regularly and are expensive to buy at the grocery.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Saving Money on Computer and Appliance Repairs
Today we’re going to talk a little bit about saving money on Computer and Appliance Repairs.
We all know that keeping things that you have longer is one of the goals of not spending money. So what do you do when something tears up?
For computer problems, my favorite way to solve it is to become friends with the kid that is the tech geek in the neighborhood. Just ask your kids who it is, they’ll know. If that doesn’t work you can always check out this site.
Just use the search box to search for the problem you’re having. You can also just browse the forum to look for your problem (there were almost 5k folks browsing the forums when I looked).
If you’re having trouble with your appliance, a place that I would suggest that you visit is the Repair Clinic.
Click Repair Help - then click on whatever is causing you, your headache.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Friday Fun
Hope your week has been going well. The weekend is just around the corner. As summer is winding down and you’re starting to think about school starting back (I can’t believe how fast the time went).
Ask your family members what they would like to do before the Summer ends. Explain to them a couple of rules. Set a spending limit. Set some other guidelines. Explain that whatever the activity is the whole family has to be involved. Once each family member has an activity they want to do ( don’t forget to include one that you want to do), use a calendar to plan out when you’re going to do each activity.
Enjoy your weekend.

A good site for helping you save Money
We stumbled on this site after hearing about it on a tv show.
Yahoo Deals - http://deals.yahoo.com/
This site is broken up into sections.
The main page gives you a breakdown of deals (this changes several times a day).
The coupon page had over 4,000 different coupons. Everything from drug stores to electronics.
Storewide sales shows snippets from the front pages of stores that are having sales.
Weekly ads show the circulars from stores that are near you.
Saved coupons allows you to save coupons that you want to use later. You can use your yahoo account to access these.
Overall I like this site quite a bit, especially the coupon section which is arranged nicely and have expiration dates displayed.
Enjoy your Tuesday!

Saving Money on a Trip to an amusement park
This past week on Friday my daughter had a trip to Kings Island an amusement park near Cincinatti. Lisa and I went along to ‘chaperone’ some of them and to have some fun ourselves.
The biggest cost for our trip was the tickets. Tickets at the gate were almost $50.00. We bought our tickets online and that saved us about $20.00. If we had more time we could have bought tickets for 2 days for the price of 1 day (and if we lived closer we would have saved a ton buying a season ticket). Parking set us back $10 - we didn’t have much of a choice here. A good option if you’re staying a couple of days is to get a hotel with tram service to the park - two days would save you 20 bucks. Many hotels offer packages for room and a visit to the park. Again the best way to find out how much you can save is to comparison shop. Don’t forget to search online forums, talk to your friends as well.
The next biggest cost for our trip was food. Dinner for four people (burgers, fries, drinks) ran us about $50.00. It was hot during the day and drinks were pretty mandantory or we would have gotten very dehydrated. Most of the parks now restrict what you can bring into the park. So eat a good breakfast. Hydrate well before leaving and bring a cooler and have some drinks for when you leave the park.
We didn’t shop any for trinkets. We did take lots of pictures (which we can make into trinkets if we want). We did have a wonderful trip and my daughter had a great time.
Enjoy your Tuesday.

Do I have the Conficer Virus / Worm
There was a lot of talk this past weekend about the possibility of the Conficer Worm to ‘wake up’. Not much happened but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have it. One way that you can find out if you’re protected is to go to the following url.
http://www.talkbiz.com/confickertest/
The worm blocks contact with the security websites - so if you can see the pictures then you probably aren’t infected… if you can’t see the images, then follow the instructions.
